What is a Keratin?
When talking to our clients we find there is a lot of misconceptions and misinformation around this service.
We have decided to shed some light on what a Keratin is and how it works for you to make an informed decision if Keratin is right for your hair.
There is many different brands of keratins out there, with different strengths and ingredients.
Here we are answering some FAQ we get in the salon.
What is Keratin?
Keratin is actually what our hair and skin is already made out of! A fibrous protein that is soft for our skin and hard for our hair and nails.
What does a Keratin Treatments do?
Let’s talk a little hair science. The main clientele for our Keratin client is frizzy and unruly hair; this does not necessarily mean just curly clients. Hair that reacts horribly when in humidity! Why does this happen? When you look at these types of hair under a microscope you’ll see the outside layer of the cuticle is open and rough. What that means is when that type of hair is subjected to a humid environment your hair will try to take the moisture from the air to fill in the holes in your cuticle layer.
How Keratin fixes this is by taking moisturizing ingredient paired with Keratin complex and is molded using a hair straightener for a semi permanent smoothing result.
What type of Keratin does The Drawing Room New York use?
We have only the best in our salon and we use LASIO, which is the only Keratin on the market our there that is water based instead on silicone. Their whole range is to help challenge the stigma of keratins. Their focus is on strengthening the hair not straightening the hair.
What does this mean for you? Application is faster and easier in a spray bottle and doesn’t build up on the hair causing a greasy limp result.
How long does a Keratin last and what types of Keratin do we carry?
This is such a common question. Keratins last the best when you upkeep them at home with the Keratin take home products, which will be detailed in the question below.
We carry all 4 different types of LASIO keratins to suit the need for all our clients hair:
TROPIC: Our lightest formula which is also fume and formaldehyde free. It’s the perfect formula for fine hair clients that want to keep their curls. TROPIC has an enhanced curl and volume protection but with 100% frizz elimination.
This product is infused with coconut oil for strength and moisture.
Last 2-3 months
ONE DAY: This is our perfect all rounder for naturally damaged hair.
The benefits are 100% frizz elimination and up to 90% curl reduction. This is our medium strength that is extremely lightweight but still smoothens, strengthens and softens the hair with amber extract infusion.
Lasts 4 months.
COLOR PRO: For color treated clients. This has the benefit of helping prolong colour fade and UV protection. Added heat protection for our blonde clients also! Boosts vibrancy of your colour and the manageability of your hair. 100% frizz elimination and up to 90% curl reduction.
Lasts 4 months.
MOCHA SILK: Our strongest Keratin for tightly coiled hair and/or extra dry and/or resistant hair. The benefit of the MOCHA SILK is the ultimate moisture retention. This product smoothen, strengths, softens and provides the highest shine and silkiness of all our keratins. 100% frizz elimination and up to 90% curl reduction.
Lasts 4 months.
What is the home care of our keratins:
For the longest lasting results, the sulphate free shampoo is a must. Without proper home products we cannot guarantee the life of your Keratin.
LASIO released a whole home care line to keep your Keratin looking perfect for as long as possible.
Including: Shampoo, conditioner, masque, smoothing cream and the Holy Grail protector!
With a Keratin it used to be that you couldn’t swim in chlorine or salt water, as your Keratin would be stripped! This is now a thing of the past. LASIO released a protected to provide a barrier between your hair and the harsh elements that the water provides, which means there is no reason to not have perfect hair all year round!
